Surgical Sperm Retrieval (SSR)
Treatment Option for Male Fertility
Service Description
Surgical Sperm Retrieval (SSR) is a procedure used to collect sperm directly from the testicle when no sperm is found in the semen. It is commonly recommended for men with very low or zero sperm count (azoospermia), blocked sperm ducts, or difficulties with ejaculation. The retrieved sperm is then used in fertility treatments such as IVF or ICSI. At our centre, SSR is carried out through two safe and proven methods: - TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) – using a fine needle to gently extract sperm directly from the testicle. - TESE (Testicular Biopsy) – removing a very small piece of testicular tissue to obtain sperm. Both procedures are performed under local or light anaesthesia, are quick and straightforward, and usually allow patients to return home the same day. Some mild soreness may occur, but recovery is generally smooth. SSR provides men with severe male-factor infertility the chance to father biological children, with the procedure carried out in a confidential, supportive, and professional environment.
